From the editor.
Today, June 30 of 2023 marks the second anniversary of the main reason why The Heart Sounds exists.
It was exactly two years ago in Laredo, Texas when I, Nacho editor and photographer of THS, went inside the operating room for a heart 5-bypass surgery! Yes, not one, not two, not three or four, but five bypasses!
Although those were very difficult days of being scared and anxious about what would happen next, thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses, and the support of my family and friends, I made it through the toughest challenge of my life.
I spent 8 days in ICU due to the severity of the open-heart surgery and due to some postoperative complications. As a nurse told me “Nacho, you had the full Disney experience, everything happened to you!” and yes, I did have the full experience.
But besides the stress and tension of everything related to the surgery, knowing that I actually had a heart attack and didn’t even know, plus the future cardiac rehabilitation, and changing my lifestyle and habits, it was during the same days that I started to appreciate every moment and every breath.
Why not have an online magazine in San Antonio, Texas that focuses on music? Why not have a magazine that has an open door for freelance photographers and writers that share the same passions as I do?
And just like that, during a trip to see my cardiologist in Laredo and with the help of my wife Mayela and friend Joselo, the whole idea landed, and a name was selected.
This next photo might be a little too much, but is a reminder to keep eating healthy, exercising, and having good habits.
And my dear friends, after two years my heart hasn’t stopped fighting, the heart still beats, the heart still pumps, and The Heart Sounds!!!
