Rock, energy and fire on stage!
Incense burned and dramatic instrumentals played, leaving the Toyota Center in Houston, TX watching the stage in anticipation for Grammy-winning rock band Greta Van Fleet.
Reminiscent of their “Dreams in Gold Tour,” the four musicians opened their set concealed behind a curtain before it dropped to “The Falling Sky.”
For the “Starcatcher World Tour,” the band swapped the black and gold “Dreams in Gold Tour” curtain for a blue curtain embellished with a silver upside-down V.
Coordinating with their new silver “Starcatcher” theme, Greta Van Fleet dressed to impress in white and silver sparkly outfits. Drummer Daniel Wagner, guitarist Jake Kiszka and bassist/keyboardist Sam Kiszka, stuck to their staple show outfits – Wagner’s sparkly mesh top and white pants were visible thanks to a clear drum set, while Jake and Sam donned white and silver pants and jackets. Lead singer Josh Kiszka underwent multiple costume changes throughout the night, adding and subtracting garments like nobody’s business.
Just when the crowd may have began to think that Josh was done changing outfits, he would reappear with something new.
Perfect for Josh’s extensive on-stage wardrobe, the band’s two-hour set left considerable time for extended guitar and drum solos while the lead singer changed.
Though the set was a mere 15 songs, music almost never stopped for the group – even when the band changed stages.
Following “Frozen Light” and a drawn-out drum solo by Wagner, the Kiszka brothers’ short disappearance transitioned onto a separate stage. Across the other side of the floor beneath the Houston Rockets’ jerseys and championship banners, the band played an acoustic cover of “Unchained Melody,” plus “Waited All Your Life” from “Starcatcher,” and a fan-favorite, “Black Smoke Rising.”
Though the non-stop music did not allow for much verbal crowd interaction, they made up for it by parading through the crowd on foot, and Josh atop a security guard’s back, passing out dozens of white roses.
Between the white roses passed out, the killer solos, the costume changes, and a fan project that used rainbow confetti and phone flashlights during “Light My Love,” Greta Van Fleet’s third show of the “Starcatcher World Tour” left myself and others wondering, was that really two hours long?
