A storm couldn't stop the party!
Last Sunday night at Germania Insurance Amphitheater was supposed to be a straightforward night of music, but Austin weather had other plans. A storm moving through the area forced a delay, and at one point the audience was asked to leave the venue. It was the kind of situation that can completely change the mood of a concert. Still, people came back.
By the time the gates reopened, the crowd was ready to make up for lost time. The audience was a mix of ages, but there was no mistaking the Kesha fans. Plenty of them showed up in colorful, playful outfits that fit perfectly with the artist’s world. They were ready to sing, dance, scream, and probably didn’t care how late the night was going to run.
Unfortunately, Meek, the British indie-pop singer who was scheduled to open the show, couldn’t perform because of the weather delay. It was a real disappointment, especially for anyone who had been looking forward to discovering her live.
Then Chromeo stepped in, and the mood started changing fast. By the time Kesha appeared, the storm was mostly yesterday’s problem. The crowd had one thing on its mind: party.

With plenty of people still making their way back into Germania Amphitheater, Chromeo didn’t wait around. They opened with “Chromeo Intro” and quickly moved into “Come Alive,” “Don’t Sleep,” “Juice,” “Fancy Footwork,” and “Jealous (I Ain’t With It).”
It was exactly the kind of set this particular night needed.
Chromeo’s music has always been built for movement, and watching the crowd respond made that pretty obvious. People who had spent the previous hour dealing with weather delays were suddenly jumping, dancing, and singing along. It didn’t matter if you had just walked back into the venue or had been there from the beginning. Once the music started, everyone seemed to get on the same page.
“Juice” was a particularly fun moment, with the crowd getting more involved as the set went on. Their mix of funk, electronic pop, and dance music fit surprisingly well before Kesha’s set, giving the audience a chance to shake off the frustration of the delay.
The biggest compliment I can give Chromeo is that they understood the assignment. There was no need for a complicated setup or a long introduction. They just played songs that made people want to move.
And after the weather had already tested everyone’s patience, that was probably the best thing they could have done.

THE FREEDOM TOUR
The second Kesha walked onto the stage and “Tik Tok” started, Germania Amphitheater basically exploded.
People jumped out of their seats, danced, screamed, and sang along from the very first lines. After everything that had happened earlier, it felt like the entire crowd had decided to forget about the storm and just enjoy the night.
From there, Kesha moved through a set that mixed some of her biggest hits with songs that carried a little more weight. “Only Love Can Save Us Now,” “Warrior,” “Crazy Kids,” and “Cannibal” kept the momentum going before she reached “Red Flag / Whip It / Dinosaur,” with Chromeo joining her for the moment.
But the most interesting part of the show wasn’t necessarily the biggest production moments. It was Kesha talking directly to the crowd.
At one point, she explained that she was singing songs she hadn’t performed in 13 years because they had been taken away from her. Then she made it clear that she wrote those songs, so she was going to sing them that night.
That changed how some of those older hits felt. Songs like “Die Young,” “Your Love Is My Drug,” and “We R Who We R” weren’t simply nostalgia. They felt like songs Kesha was reconnecting with on her own terms.
And then there was the production. The lighting, dancers, choreography, costumes, and visuals all seemed to have their own little details and meanings. You could spend the entire show trying to figure out what each piece represented, or you could just enjoy the spectacle.
Either way, it worked.
Kesha also spent plenty of time talking to the audience and feeding off their reactions. The crowd gave her plenty back. They knew the words, they knew the moves, and they were clearly happy to be there.
Fans just want to have fun!
One of the most fun parts of the night was simply watching the audience. Kesha shows seem to give people permission to dress however they want, and Austin fans definitely took advantage of that.
There were colorful outfits, glitter, playful looks, and plenty of people who clearly planned their entire concert outfit around the occasion. Most of the crowd was young women, but there was a real mix of ages throughout the venue. And everyone participated.
People were dancing during Chromeo, screaming during Kesha’s biggest songs, and singing even when the weather delay had already pushed the night way off schedule.
That says a lot about the connection Kesha has built with her fans. They weren’t just there to hear the hits. They were there to be part of the experience.
FROM NASHVILLE TO POP STARDOM
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Nashville, Kesha grew up around music and started writing songs at a young age. She moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue a career in music and eventually began working as a songwriter and vocalist before her own breakthrough.
Her big moment came in 2009 when she was featured on Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” Not long after, “Tik Tok” turned her into a pop star almost overnight. Her debut album, Animal, became a major commercial success and established the mix of dance-pop, humor, attitude, and personal songwriting that became part of her identity.
But Kesha’s story has never been only about pop hits. Her career has also involved difficult battles over creative control and her ability to perform and release her own music.
That history gives the Freedom Tour another layer. When she sings those early songs now, there is a sense that she’s not simply looking back. She’s taking ownership of them again.
