The desert surrendered to Blink-182!
Just like everything in life comes to an end, the three amazing days passed so fast and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2023 finished with some incredible bands and performances!
I felt like Sunday was the hottest day of the weekend, but trust me, it was worth enough to be in the desert for the festival’s weekend two.
Our expectations for Sunday were high, having Weyes Blood, Porter Robinson, Kali Uchis, Björk, Willow, Fisher with Chris Lake, Blink-182 and the last act of Four Tet-Fred Again..-Skrillex as part of the lineup, we knew the end of the festival was going to be epic… and it really was!
One of the first acts we were able to enjoy was GloRilla, a new band that combines rock, pop, and rap in a unique way. They have a charismatic lead singer, a talented guitarist, a funky bassist, and a crazy drummer. They performed some of their hits like “Blessed”, “Out Loud Thinking”, “Tomorrow 2”, and “F.N.F (Let’s Go)”. They had the crowd dancing and singing along.
From there we ran to see part of Porter Robinson’s act. He is one of the most innovative and creative producers in the electronic music scene. His latest album Nurture is a masterpiece of emotion and sound design.
Another band we got to see early in the day was Big Wild. A multi-instrumentalist and singer who creates uplifting and catchy tunes that blend organic and electronic elements. His live show is full of energy and surprises, as he plays drums, keyboards, guitar and vocals.
Starting with “Telepatía”, it was the turn to see Kali Uchis, the American-Colombian singer who brought sensuality, rhythm, and great songs to the main stage. She delivered an amazing performance surrounded by dancers and great musicians. “See You Again”, “Rica Y Apretadita”, “Papi Chulo” and “After The Storm” were some of the songs of her presentation.
An act we wish we could enjoy more was Willow. She does have famous parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, but she has carved her own path as a singer and songwriter. Her music is a mix of pop, rock, R&B, and soul, with influences from alternative and indie artists. For the people who got there late to see her was impossible to get close to the stage. She gathered thousands of fans at the Mojave tent. During her show, she sang “Curious/Furious”, “Why”, “Split”, and “Wait A Minute!” to mention a few.
Icelandic legend singer and composer Björk has been pushing the boundaries of art and music for decades with her experimental and eclectic style and that’s exactly what she brought to Coachella 2023. She performed songs from her extensive discography, such as “Come To Me’, “Pluto” and “Hunter”, as well as some new material from her latest album Fossora. Joined on stage by the Hollywood String Ensemble and Director/Composer Bjarni Frímann, the singer really delivered an incredible show, that in some parts of her performance was also joined by drones forming silhouettes up in the air.
And last but not least, the headliners of Coachella 2023 were Blink-182 and Skrillex/Four Tet, and Fred Again.
Blink-182, the legendary pop-punk band played so many of their classic hits and the crowd went wild as they sang along to every word and jumped up and down to the catchy beats. They started with “Family Reunion”, “Anthem Part Two” and “The Rock Show”, but a special moment was to hear “Stay Together For The Kids”, a song that hasn’t been played since 2018. Other great songs the band played were “I Miss You”, “First Date” and “All The Small Things”. It was definitely a great show!
It was an incredible 2023 Edition. From the amazing lineup of artists; to the stunning stage design and to the incredible vibe of the crowd, everything was perfect.
