7 long years to see the band back on tour in North America!

Last night, we had the fortune to see live one of the bands of the world at the Moody Center: The Cure!

The last time Robert Smith and company made a stop in Austin, TX as part of a tour was on May 13 of 2016, yes, almost exactly 7 years ago when the band played at the old Frank Erwin Center and today they came back with their new Shows of a Lost World Tour to the city.

This tour features songs from their entire discography, including some rare gems and b-sides, plus songs from their much-awaited upcoming album “Songs of a Lost World”, which still doesn’t have a firm release date.

The opening act, same as seven years ago, was The Twilight Sad, a Scottish indie rock band that has been working with The Cure for some years joining them on different tours and also festivals, such as Pasadena Day Dream Fest in California back in 2019. They have a dark and atmospheric sound that was the perfect opening act for what was coming ahead.

The Cure took the stage at 8:15 pm and played for almost three hours, with two encores. They started with “Alone”, a haunting instrumental track from their latest album, and then launched into classics like “Pictures of You”, “A Night Like This”, and “Lovesong”.

The crowd was singing along and cheering every song, and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. Robert Smith’s voice was still amazing after all these years, and he was very charismatic and playful with the audience. He even cracked a few jokes between songs, which was unexpected but delightful.

A trip through an impeccable discography!

The setlist was very diverse and satisfying, covering different eras and styles of The Cure’s music. They played some of their most popular hits, such as “Lullaby”, “Friday I’m in Love”, and “Just Like Heaven”, but also some deeper cuts, such as “And Nothing Is Forever”, “I Can Never Say Goodbye” dedicated to Robert’s brother, “A Fragile Thing” and “Play For Today”. They also played a new song, “It Can Never Be The Same” from their upcoming album.

But the highlight for many was the second encore, which featured songs that are international classics and for many their favorites such as “Lullaby”, “The Walk”, “Friday I’m In Love”, “Close To Me”, “Just Like Heaven” and for the end, “Boys Don’t Cry”. It was a dream come true for new and old fans to hear those songs live, and they sounded incredible!

The Cure’s performance was flawless and captivating, and they proved once again why they are one of the best bands in history. They have a unique and timeless sound that transcends genres and generations, and they have a loyal and passionate fanbase that loves them unconditionally.

We’re so glad we got to see them live and hope they can come back again soon, not in another 7 years!
