The hit collaboration of the summer!
Today, Houston’s very own Travis Scott enlisted two of the biggest artists in the world in, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny for his new Latin trap single, “K-Pop.”
The single is intended to lead into the rapper’s highly anticipated album, Utopia, which is set to release five years after his massively successful record, “Astroworld.”
Prior to today’s official announcement on Scott’s instagram, there were leaked snippets of Scott and Benito were cooking it up in the studio. However, The Weeknd joining in the mix came as an unexpectedly welcome surprise. His musical partnership with Scott is nothing new, with this being their sixth time sharing a track. On the other hand, this is only Bad Bunny’s third time teaming up with Scott and his very first time with The Weeknd. Fortunately for us fans, the chemistry between the three artists are melodious.
Released by Cactus Jack Records through Epic Records, the trio is aided by producers BNYX®, Boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet & Illangelo to craft an infectious blend of Latin rhythms with a hint of trap-infused in the mix. The track starts off with Scott delivering a verse over the bouncy instrumental, a style he has previously explored after working with Rosalía on the song “TKN.” His signature autotuned and reverbed vocals create a sound that uniquely fuses with the Latin rhythms in play.
Bad Bunny seamlessly transitions into his verse, melodically rapping over an instrumental that has become synonymous with the style that has captured the music world by storm. His input on the track is effortlessly catchy and playful, perfectly matching the psychedelic vibes that the mysterious red lollipop teases on the single’s cover art.
Following the chorus, The Weeknd brings the track to a close by again showcasing his unbelievable vocal prowess. He brings a smooth and sensual sound to the track that wonderfully complements the instrumental at play. The chorus plays one more time with all three artists involved to bring this seamlessly mellow track to a satisfying close.
With this track’s release further adding hype to Scott’s new album, it hints at a much different sound than the rapper usually provides, which would give fans both a different and exciting musical experience. As we await for Utopia to finally be released to the masses, the song also adds to an already busy year for both of our featured artists.
The Weeknd is in the midst of his international dates on his After Hours til Dawn Tour, and recently had a starring role on the hit HBO series, The Idol, in which he also served as co-creator. Bad Bunny had a commanding showing at Coachella this past April, delivering two terrific headlining performances, and has had a few hits of his own this year, such as “Where She Goes” and “Un x100to” with Grupo Frontera.
Considering the great talent that all three artists brought to this single, It’s safe to assume that it will be likely be a smash hit that fans will surely love to hear for the rest of the summer and beyond.
