We traveled in time to the '80s!

Yesterday was one of those nights when you feel like you travel back in time and all of a sudden you are at a high school party in the ’80s, for us that are above 40 years old.

That’s the vibe The Midnight brought to The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, TX as part of their North American 2023 tour.

Together with opening act Flamingosis, the two bands brought a night full of great rhythms, awesome melodies and lots of dancing!

FLAMINGOSIS

The night started with the beats of DJ Aaron Velasquez, know as Flamingosis.

Flamingosis is a master of blending funk, soul, hip hop and electronic music into a groovy and uplifting sound that makes you want to dance all night long.

The crowd was amazing, everyone was vibing and having a good time especially when we approached the people near the stage and started showing his awesome dancing moves.

He left the audience in the perfect mood for the main act of the night.

THE MIDNIGHT

It was 9:15 PM when the lights at The Aztec Theatre were turned off and the members of The Midnight appeared on stage.

The band formed by singer Tyler Lyle and percussionist/synths Tim McEwan, joined on stage by other great musicians, started the show with songs “Syndicate”, “Lonely City” and “Endless Summer” that filled the venue with retro synth-wave sounds and groovy beats that had everyone immersed in a time capsule transporting us to their world.

In case you haven’t heard this band and wonder how they sound, the description of McEwan when he talks about their style could be very accurate “the band’s early albums sound as if Miami Vice had a baby with a John Hughes movie.

The band continues promoting  their latest live album “Red, White and Bruised: The Midnight Live” that contains 8 incredible tracks.

All of the songs are from their sold-out 2022 US tour and include crowd favorites like “Sunset,” “Days of Thunder,” and “Deep Blue,” which mashes up Americana archetypes with synths, rock, and pop. These songs couldn’t be left out of the setlist and it was great to hear them live.

The Midnight is joined on stage by Lelia Broussard on bass, guitar and synths, Justin Klunk on saxophone and synths, and Royce Whittaker on guitar and synths who add a unique touch to the band’s style.
