The solar eclipse brought big doses of rock!
Day two of Austin City Limits 2023’s second weekend was a tour de force of musical talent that left festival-goers delighted.
With headliners Foo Fighters and The 1975 leading the charge, and a diverse lineup including Noah Kahan, Tove Lo, Tegan and Sara, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Alanis Morissette, and Rina Sawayama, among others, this day proved to be a musical extravaganza for all in attendance.
The weather kept being benevolent with us, with no heat and cloudy most of the afternoon.
Here is our review of some of the great acts we were able to enjoy on Saturday.
Weekend 2 - Day 2
Rina Sawayama’s genre-blending set was a breath of fresh air, seamlessly moving between pop, rock, and electronica. Her theatrical stage presence and stunning visuals left a lasting impression, showcasing her as a rising star in the music world. Right after Rina, it was the turn to see Noah Kahan, whose soulful and introspective tunes set the perfect tone for the day. His heartfelt lyrics and soothing melodies drew the early crowd in and made it clear that we were in for something special.
Tove Lo brought a pop-infused energy that had the crowd dancing to hits like “Habits (Stay High),” and her infectious charisma had everyone singing along.
Tegan and Sara, the indie-pop duo, delivered a spirited performance that combined their signature harmonies with a heartfelt connection to the audience. Their set was an emotional highlight of the day, connecting both old and new fans with their catchy songs and personal anecdotes.
Thirty Seconds to Mars, led by the charismatic Jared Leto, took the stage from above after jumping from the top followed by a bungee jump to the photo pit with a high-octane performance. Their anthemic rock and Leto’s boundless energy made for an unforgettable experience. It was a masterclass in live entertainment and a testament to the enduring power of rock music.
The legendary Alanis Morissette graced the festival with her presence, and her timeless hits like “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic” had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs. Her emotional and raw performance proved why she’s a true icon in the music industry.
FOO FIGHTERS & THE 1975
As night fell, the anticipation for the headliners reached its peak. The 1975 brought their unique blend of pop and rock to the stage, creating a euphoric atmosphere with their atmospheric soundscapes and impressive light show. Their performance was an artful fusion of music and visual effects, leaving the audience in awe.
Finally, the Foo Fighters closed out the night with a thunderous roar. Their high-octane rock anthems had the crowd in a frenzy, and Dave Grohl’s boundless energy and showmanship were nothing short of electrifying. From “Everlong” to “Best of You,” the Foo Fighters gave a performance for the ages, solidifying their status as rock legends.
Austin City Limits 2023, Weekend Two, Day Two was a testament to the power of live music and the diversity of talent in the industry. With a lineup spanning different genres and generations, it catered to all music lovers and left us with unforgettable memories of a day filled with heart, energy, and passion.
