A cultural celebration brought to Texas!

Last night we witnessed Maná’s first ever show in Austin, TX as part of the “Mexico Lindo y Querido” tour at the Moody Center and we can only say it was a captivating and emotionally charged spectacle that left a lasting imprint on the audience.

As one of the most iconic Latin rock bands, Maná’s return to the live stage was a significant occasion.

From the moment the band stepped onto the stage, the crowd was transported to a world where music, passion, and unity reigned supreme. The band’s distinctive blend of rock, pop, and traditional Mexican influences resonated deeply with the diverse audience, creating a sense of cultural celebration and togetherness.

The Moody Center welcomed everyone with a beautiful Day of the Dead altar, in memory of those who are no longer with us. In this case, they had photos of Selena Quintanilla, John Lennon, Freddy Mercury, Vicente Fernandez, and others.

THE SHOW

It was 9:00 PM when the lights of the venue went off and the LED screen covering the stage was lifted while the beat of “Hechicera” was kicking in the back. It was showtime! Maná was in the house!

Frontman Fher Olvera’s magnetic presence and distinctive vocals were the heartbeat of the performance. His passionate delivery and poignant lyrics touched the hearts of everyone in attendance. While drummer Alex Gonzalez with his impressive and groovy beats kept the audience always hyped. Guitarist Sergio Vallín proved he is virtuous in the guitar and bassist Juan Calleros kept a solid base for the band to sound impeccable.

The setlist featured a mix of Maná’s greatest hits, including “Mariposa Traicionera,” “Labios Compartidos,” “Me Vale, and “Rayando el Sol,” each met with fervent applause and enthusiastic sing-alongs.

The stage production was nothing short of spectacular, featuring vibrant visuals, stunning light displays, and immersive effects that enhanced the music’s emotional impact. The backdrop of the stage was a large LED screen that transformed throughout the show, transporting the audience to various Mexican landscapes, creating a multisensory experience.

Singer Fher constantly interacted with the audience who never stopped singing and screaming with the band. He shared that almost 40 years ago he lived in Austin for a certain period to learn English. With a fake ID he was able to get a job in downtown as a dishwasher with a $4.50 per hour at a vegetarian restaurant. And now, after so many years he was very happy to be back in Austin as a rockstar.

One of the show’s most touching moments was when the band moved to a smaller stage on the other side of the venue where they played 5 songs in acoustic versions, such as “Te Solté La Rienda”, “Te Lloré Un Rio”, “El Reloj Cucú”, “Huele a Tristeza” with a fan invited to join them on stage, and “Eres Mi Religión.”

The band paid tribute to their Mexican heritage, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience. Their heartfelt messages resonated deeply in today’s world, transcending music to become a source of inspiration and hope.
