From Gritty to Dreamy, a Sonic Journey at the Aztec!

The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, TX transformed into a dreamscape of swirling guitars, ethereal vocals, and heartfelt emotion as Turnover brought their “Peripheral Vision Tour” to town. With a stacked lineup that featured Horse Jumper of Love and the newly reactivated Balance & Composure, the show was a perfect blend of introspective indie rock and cathartic post-emo nostalgia.

The crowd—clearly a mix of longtime fans and new faces—was fully immersed in every moment. From fuzzy textures to intimate lyricism, each act contributed a unique layer to the night’s emotional palette. Fans sang along, swayed under the venue’s rich lighting, and let the music wash over them in waves. For anyone who ever drifted away into the soft melancholy of “Peripheral Vision”, this tour brought it back to life in the most vivid way. It wasn’t just a show—it was an experience.

HORSE JUMPER OF LOVE

Opening the night was the ever-evolving and always captivating Horse Jumper of Love. Their set was a slow burn of lo-fi brilliance, casting a hypnotic spell over the early crowd. The band’s blend of sludgy tempos and poetic lyricism set the tone perfectly. Songs like “Snow Angle,” “Wink,” and “Lip Reader” echoed through the Aztec with a beautiful heaviness, letting the silence between notes speak as loudly as the instruments themselves.

Frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos kept banter to a minimum, letting the music do the talking—and it spoke volumes. Their set felt like a secret being whispered into the crowd’s collective ear. It was a stark, introspective, and grounding way to open the show. Horse Jumper of Love proved that vulnerability and minimalism still hold incredible power on stage. They set the table for the emotional storm that was about to follow

BALANCE & COMPOSURE

Next up, Balance & Composure stormed the stage with a much-awaited return that immediately raised the room’s intensity. Their sound—gritty, expansive, and packed with emotion—brought a jolt of energy to the night. It’s been years since fans have seen them live, and they wasted no time reminding everyone why they’ve earned such a dedicated following. Tracks like “Any Means,” “Back Of Your Head,” and “Last To Know” hit with emotional precision, creating moments of pure catharsis for the crowd.

Frontman Jon Simmons delivered every lyric like he was exorcising a memory, and the band matched that rawness with walls of sound and breakneck crescendos. The set was a dynamic contrast to the opener—louder, more aggressive, but equally emotional. They walked the line between chaos and control like pros. Balance & Composure brought an undeniable fire that elevated the whole night. Their return felt not only welcomed but absolutely necessary.

TURNOVER

Peripheral Vision Tour

Finally, Turnover took the stage to a roar of adoration, diving into their career-defining “Peripheral Vision” album. Every note felt like a page from a collective diary being read aloud. The band’s shimmering guitar tones, dreamy vocal layers, and ambient textures filled the Aztec like fog—soft, mysterious, and all-consuming. Opening with “Cutting My Fingers Off”, they had the crowd instantly suspended in time. Songs like “Dizzy on the Comedown” and “Take My Head” felt like old friends, familiar but still powerful.

Lead singer Austin Getz’s airy delivery added an ethereal layer, while the band behind him stayed tight and tasteful. Their ability to turn vulnerability into a shared space of beauty was on full display. The audience swayed, eyes closed, singing along to every melancholic verse. Turnover’s set wasn’t loud—it was loud with feeling. And that’s what made it unforgettable.

From Punk to Dreamier Vibes!

Formed in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2009, Turnover originally cut their teeth in the pop-punk and emo scenes before transforming their sound into something dreamier and more atmospheric. Their breakout moment came with the release of “Peripheral Vision” in 2015, a bold pivot into shoegaze and indie-rock that redefined the band and expanded their audience. That album marked a new chapter not just in sound, but in substance—ushering in a lyrical shift toward introspection, emotional nuance, and sonic exploration.

Over the years, Turnover continued to evolve with albums like “Good Nature” and “Altogether”, never shying away from artistic reinvention. Through lineup changes and stylistic risks, the band has consistently held onto their core: a dedication to honest expression. Their influence has rippled through the indie scene, inspiring a new wave of bands to follow their path of fearless transformation.
